This task trains your semantic long-term memory retrieval. You'll be presented with number pairs in various formats:
• Arabic numerals vs. written number words (7 vs. "seven")
• Arabic numerals vs. Roman numerals (4 vs. IV)
• Spelled numbers vs. Roman numerals ("six" vs. VI)
Each trial follows this sequence:
1. A rule is presented (you must press the spacebar to continue)
2. A fixation cross appears for 500ms
3. A number pair appears (respond while it's visible)
4. The next trial begins with a new rule
These are two possible rules:
1. Physical Property Rule:
Judge whether the items share the same physical format.
- Press "J" if both items have the same format (e.g., 7-9 are both Arabic numerals)
- Press "F" if items have different formats (e.g., 7-"seven" are different formats)
2. Meaning Rule:
Judge whether the items share the same meaning.
- Press "J" if both items represent the same number (e.g., 4-IV both mean four)
- Press "F" if items represent different numbers (e.g., 4-V mean four and five)
Training Structure:
• Each session consists of 32 trials
• Rules may change on each trial - you must pay attention to the rule
• The task difficulty adapts based on your performance
